Radio Artivism panel debate/discussion 21 December 2005 20h, Cultural Centre Rex, Belgrade. Participants: Dusan Grlja (Prelom), Kristijan Lukic (kuda.org), Nebojsa Milikic (Belgrade Correspondent), Claire Staebler (Radiodays), and radioart collective Ligna (radio FSK), Moderator: Jelena Vesic
Radio Artivism draws upon Bertolt Brecht's thinking that function of radio should not be limited to being a form of commercial entertainment, but as a means to inform the people of political problems and also to suggest solutions to these problems. Brecht wanted radio to be changed from a commercial product to a form of communication that would work in the interest of the people.
In the context of UNCONTROLLABLE SITUATIONS: Different Models for Radio Usage, the RADIO ARTIVISM debate will shed light on different local and international radio projects as panel participants focus on the imaginative and political potentials of radio and consider the relations between art, theoretical thought and political action in regard to (artistic) radio usage.
