My Creativity convention: : Conference concerning the causes and phenomenon of 'creative industries' 17-18 November 2006 was organised by the Institute of Networked Cultures.
The 2 day convention aimed to cast a more critical light on the now popular and hyped usage of the term 'Creative Industries' and what this means for creative culltural practioners (namely new media artists and designers) today. The conference looked in particular at policy and business exploitation of creative labour and working conditions of individuals working in the creative field.
30 conference speakers presented a diverse (and often contradictory) constellation of issues from critiques of intellectual property regimes and policy discourse to thinking about alternative business and organisational models to the less graspable fields of inquiry such as creative social networks and the precarious conditions of non-commercial creative labour in the face of the global commodification of culture and creativity.
