Europe Lost and Found (ELF) is an interdisciplinary and transnational research project to articulate and imagine the current evolution of new and transforming borders and territories of Europe. It is a three-phased project, dealing with the following major themes: “Balkanization” (2006-2007), “Europeanization” (2007-2008) and “Map the Future” (2008-2009). Each phase will develop the ground for the subsequent phase by posing new sets of questions and determining new research directions. In this way, ELF will reflect on contemporary Europe, and challenge the increasing belief and practice of nation-state and the technocratic construction of European Union. Clearly, Europe cannot subsist by itself, and is already being redefined by “the others” in its quest for a self-identity.
The first project phase of Europe Lost and Found began with the Lost highway Expedition (July - August 2006).
