In collaboration with Ashkal Alwan, ALMOSTREAL storytelling is supporting the production and presentation of video works by emerging Lebanese artists. These video works will be shown as part of a greater festival for video works instigated and organised by Ashkal Alwan.
In the context of ALMOSTREAL storytelling, Ashkal Alwan selected 8 artists to produce a video work during the spring last year. Then there was the war. In the face of the ensuing uncertainty and devastation some of the selected artists changed their original video proposals completely.
The artistic use of the video medium in Lebanon has an exceptional history in Lebanon. Notwithstanding the fact that video is economically and technically more practical than film, Lebanese artists are exploring and developing a unique language of video as a means to excavate untold past and present narratives that render alternative stories to the dominant narrative of media representations.
The Ashkal Alwan/ALMOSTREAL video event will be held in the Marash-al-Madina theatre in Beirut between April 12 – 15. Stay tuned for more festival details…
