The artistic research project “Political Practices in (post)Yugoslav Art” will conclude the first stage of ALMOSTREAL. This project arose through the collaboration of four independent organizations from the Western Balkan region during the first phase of ALMOSTREAL between autumn 2005 and summer 2006.
What, How & for Whom (Zagreb), Pro.ba (Sarajevo), Prelom Kolektiv (Belgrade), and New Media Centre kuda.org (Novi Sad) are combining their different disciplinary aptitudes and resources to research the historical conditions which have shaped cultural-artistic production in present day post-Socialist former Yugoslavia.
Contrary to the notion of culture as something that reflects national identity, their combined research stirs a necessay shift away from defining art as representation (of political processes) to thinking about art as political practice.
“Political Practices in (post) Yugoslav Art” will also involve interested contributors from the cultural field in the region, opening possibilities for inter-regional artistic exchange throughout ex-Yugoslavia. The instances of this project will consist of presentations of the research materials in different formats such as web-platform, publications, exibitions, forums and conferences. More about the project can be read through the
kuda.org website.
