The first stage of ALMOSTREAL, focusing on the theme ‘confrontation’, was set in motion directly after the first ALMOSTREAL getogether in July 2005. At this time, 4 art-media organisations from the Balkan region were asked to make a confluent proposal in which they would share their different methodologies and outputs that address the theme ‘confrontation’. In the period between July 2005 to January 2006, AR1 grew into an assemblage of many different layers of overlaps as these organisations exchanged resources and jointly organised several activities from performances and panel debates on art and radio usage in Novi Sad and Belgrade, to setting up an independent collective for critical political-cultural journal PRELOM magazine in Belgrade, to transferring an exhibtion from Novi Sad to Zagreb, as well as airing the issues raised throughout all these activities as part of an alternative cultural programme broadcast on Bosnian public television. Although AR1 officially finished in January 2006, the outcome of the collaborative processes are culminating in an extended project entitled “Political Practices of (post-) Yugoslav Art”.
