Stage 3 focuses on developing culture of reflection in artistic production. ‘Alkantara’ artistic director Mark Deputter and performance theorist Bojana Cvejic initiated 2 temporary platforms which brought together artists from divergent backgrounds to exchange knowledge, experiment, reflect and question their different modes of making and presenting work. Both events amplified the need to reflect upon the new conceptual imaginations which arise from the artistic collaboration itself:
The first event entitled ‘Before and After the Show’ was a seminar held in Lisbon in June 2006 for performing artists to publicly discuss the way their collaborations unfolded both during the process, in the lead-up to, and after their performances. This seminar set the track for a more intensive collaborative research platform entitled ‘it will be what we make it’. This second event invited a group of 19 artists of various cultural and disciplinary backgrounds (dance, television, architecture, electronic sound production, theory, theatre) to explore spontaneous production, presentation, documentation, and, if appropriate, new collaborations. This temporary research platform was a shared space of working in which artists could swap and learn heterogeneous meanings, perceptions, techniques, by-products and side-effects of processes of reflection.
