This research project is a collaboration between 4 independent cultural organisations (SCCA/pro.Ba—Sarajevo—, WHW—Zagreb—, kuda.org—Novi Sad—, and PRELOMKOLEKTIV—Belgrade—) who had first started working together in July 2005 to co-develop and realise the first stage of ALMOSTREAL.
'Political Practices of (post) Yugoslav Art' — starting in May 2007 and finishing in June 2008 — aims firstly to strengthen and sustain the collaboration and joint programming between practitioners from the former Yugoslavia who think of culture as a productive process rather than a representative product. Secondly, the joint research process will trace the historical relevance and the growing recognition of art practices of former Yugoslvian Modernism and conceptual art, and will relate this research to other presumed 'marginal' geographies in Europe and to the wider European art historical context.
The research for 'Political Practices of (post) Yugoslav Art' will be brought to life in the form of new artworks, multilingual publications and documentary material and public events such as discussions, presentations and exhibitions held by the collaborating organisations in their respective cities: Sarajevo, Zagreb, Novi Sad and Belgrade. Not least, the four organisations will restore and reintroduce to a broader public the 'TV Gallery' which, durings the '80s was a seminal example of work between public television and artists.
