A selection of videos by emerging Lebanese artists made for the project 'Video Works' were screened on Sunday 6 May 2007 in Ljubljana at Stara Elektrarna — a former power station now used by Bunker productions as a venue for performances and cultural events.
The video screening was held the day before 2 important gatherings: the fifth ALMOSTREAL getogether, and another significant ECF meeting, the mediterranean reflection group.
The presentation of Video Works was accompanied by an introduction by Igor Dobricic on behalf of curator Christine Thomé, director of Beirut based Ashkal Alwan, who could not make it to Ljubljana for the occassion.
The screening and talk was a moment for a Ljubljana public, as well as the cultural practitioners attending both meetings, to see the issues raised by the videos and to consider the artistic forms of media production as a critical alternative to mainstream media.
The screening of 'Video Works' at Stara elektrana in Ljubljana was the first screening outside of Beirut. 'Video Works' premiered in Lebanon as part of the VideoAvril video festival 12-15 April 2007 in Beirut.
