The ECF would like to support artistic initiatives that enhance hospitality, intimacy, storytelling, research and the confrontational component of artistic production and presentation. We do not intend to search for art works that bear these characteristics, as we believe that any good art depends on them. We Would like to invest our resources in recognising and supporting processes and circumstances in which this kind of art could be developed and presented.
After 6 months of consultations with o.a. Charles Esche (director of Van Abbemuseum) and Barbara Van Lindt (programmer of KunstenFestivalDesArtes) the following text Art as Dialogue was drafted by Igor Dobricic in autumn 2004, as a first proposal concerning the new support project to be developed by the ECF from 2005 and onwards. The support project, in due time called 'ALMOST REAL' attempts to address the lack of means to learn from the activities supported during the ECF's former art programme 'Art For Social Change'. This text oultines the interests in art as a means of confrontation, storytelling, research, hospitlaity and intimacy that then became the thematic strands of ALMOST REAL.
