We must be able to identify and defend that which we believe is the intrinsic potential of art. We must not instrumentalise it, nor oversimplify it. We must be aware of the complex ways in which art engages with its audiences — and through that engagement — produces and reproduces the public sphere"— Daniel Jewesbury in Now What? Artists Write!, M.Kremer, M. Hlavajova and A. Fletcher (Eds.) Utrecht, 2004.
Over the years, namely through its arts programme and AlmostReal, the Europen Cultural Foundation has become increasingly attentive to the perspective of the artist. On March 13, the ECF is organising a reflection meeting in Amsterdam for foundations and artists. The meeting will bring together (inter)national foundations with a social mission and zoom in on their relationship between artists and the artistic realm.
