Mountains of butter, lakes of wine is a public conference as part of the last stage of AlmostReal. This event will take place dring the Swedish EU presidency in Stockholm 7-8 November 2009 in the municipal Unga Klara theatre. The title refers to landscape-as-food metaphors used, particularly in the 70-80s, to describe the surplus generated by EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

The 2 day event will be a combined public debate including a speech staged by artist duo Goldin + Senneby. This speech discusses agricultural funding as an allegory for cultural funding. Looking in particular at the relation ship between bureaucratic policy developments, the practice of farming and the production of landscape. Written by an experienced political speech writer and directed by a theatre director, the lecture adds new persectives on the climate and future of cultural policies through comparisons with European agricultural policies.
