Tarek Atoui is an artist from Lebanon who describes himself as an electro-acoustic musician. He works digitally, creating a uniquely abstract sound world with his experimental approach. He makes soundscapes, often with beats subject to breaks and asymmetries. He builds new software for each project that he works on. One of the project she is developing software for is 'Empty Cans' which is an ongoing project that emerged out of his work in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. With 'Empty Cans', Tarek taught children and teenagers how to produce text and images on a computer. In small groups they made short clips about their experiences in the restlessness and confined atmosphere of the camps. Now based in Paris, Atoui together with Uriel Barthelemi is the founder of the 'Asa Djinnia Collective'.Tarek's involvement with ALMOSTREAL is to curate and develop workshops and a final event by emerging Lebanese artists who are exploring live video practices and interactive projects incorporating gestures, sound, image working with new media that create instances of collective digital storytelling.
On this page you can find information about individuals involved in ALMOSTREAL. You can see what role they play (sometimes it will list 'other', for people that have been involved on the fringes of the project), on which occasions they collaborated with others involved in ALMOSTREAL, and which activities or products their are connected to their involvement. Finally, the tag field shows some keywords that can be associated to this person.
